Every time I try to fax, the application crashes

On my G4 1.25 powerbook, I have tried a number of times to fax documents from the print menu. Every single time I try to do it, the running application crashes immediately. It doesn't matter if it is word, preview, acrobat, whatever. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this problem? All I've tried so far is repairing permissions. I've had this computer so long that I can't remember if I've ever used it to fax something before.

Do you have a modem? You need one to fax unless you use one of the online fax services.

It's a G4 powerbook. They all have fax modems.
