And then there were none - Mitch Mitchell RIP

Sad news from Portland.

I saw the Experience back in 1967 and have been a fan of Jimi and the boys ever since. The 'voodoo' in my name is to do with them.

This is sad news indeed. Growing up in HS, Jimi was my idol and the Experience was my fav group among many others. I was a member of a trio then that played their songs note for note and we literally spent hundreds and hundreds of hours using record players to study and learn all the songs on their 3 albums.

We were always amazed at what Mitch would come up with on drums to compliment Jimi's songs.

RIP, Mitch, I'll be listening to Little Wing and the rest tonight.

Bad news indeed. You can die of "natural causes" at just 61? That's way too young.

Mitch's playing came from a jazz background and not the usual pop/rock. He was an essential part of the Experience sound.

So which one of my 450+ CDs ( yes WHiip, all different and all Jimi) will I be playing tonight?

R.I.P.

Time to plug in Burning of the Midnight Lamp. IMO, this is one of the sadder Hendrix tunes and seems appropriate.

Yes, I remember . . . good luck with that.

I request Izabella, Stone Free or Hey, Joe . . .

The best bands usually have some kinda jazz drummer. It makes them stand out...
Thinking about the Ringo Starr was not just another drummer; Charlie Watts and the Stones, John Densmore of the Doors....even Peter Criss of KISS made them stand out from the usual arena rock of the 70s. My brother loves KISS, has ALL the records and CD's.

It's funny that the Stones play hard and loud, but the drums are never hard and loud.

Add Toto to the list.
