Last Jan. it was the 21st.
I wish my birthday was always on a Monday. I suppose it could be.

How is it appropriate? The president is half caucasian?

Half caucasians don't celebrate Martin Luther King? What does black mean to you? Black isn't a race, it's a people. African is a race. Caucasian is a race. Black is a people of a shared experience. Obama calls himself black. What's the problem with wanting to be black. Not a single black (note the lower case b) person is of pure blood, so then no one is black or it is silly to identify themselves as black?

yeah, I most certainly do. I just don't think any particular group, race, gender or sexual orientation should lay "claim" to him, or expect that he will somehow identify with them more closely than any other groups. an 87.5% German Shepard isn't a German Shepard really. Ask the AKC.
My adopted father was 1/32 Cherokee, but he sure as heck wasn't native american. Now, is it fitting that innaguration day is MLK day that year, and he has been a champion for human rights since the earliest days of his political career, and even before? If that's the case, yes. I do know that he and his "advisors" have been vocally and his advisors sometimes violently, trying to erode and take away rights guaranteed by the constitution for the perceived greater good.

Oh, well.
Obama chooses to self-identify as a black man. The overwhelming majority of black folks identify Obama as a black man. Most everyone Obama comes in contact with identify him as a black man. He's actually articulated this much better that I could (I should be looking for my bed rather than looking for links right now) but attempting to define his ethnicity and culture by comparing him to a less than pedigreed dog is just . . . not right.

Obama has called himself a mutt way too many times.
