you don't know JACK!. . .Illinois Governor scandal..'Candidate 5' is. . .
#1
. . .or might be Jesse Jackson. . .

ABC: Jackson is 'Candidate 5'

. . .ABC News has a law enforcement source telling them that Jesse Jackson, Jr. is "Senate Candidate Five," the one who was -- according to Blagojevich -- willing to supply campaign cash in exchange for the Senate seat.

(This, incidentally, doesn't strike me as all that unusual in politics, or as obviously criminal as other things in the complaint -- though the crudeness with which Blagojevich discussed it was.)

ABC reports:

Jackson Jr. said "I don't know" when asked if he was Candidate #5, but said he was told "I am not a target of this investigation."

Jackson Jr. said he agreed to talk with federal investigators "as quickly as possible" after he consults with a lawyer.

The Congressman, a son of the famed civil rights leader, denied that anyone had been authorized to make payments or promises to the Governor on his behalf. . .

STOP the love you save might be your own. . .

Oh, God. If true, Jackson is a freaking nitwit.

Is "Candidate 9" Eliot Spitzer?

Apparently, it's true (see my post below where I note that he has been contacted by the FBI.)

To this point, JJ Jr. is fairly well respected (much more than his father, IMHO.) His wife is also involved in local government and they are "ones to watch" in the party.

He has been very public in his desire to receive the seat appointment and I am really hoping he didn't do anything stupid (read: illegal) in promoting himself.

I don't always agree with JJ, but it'd be a shame if he did hork things up this way.

If anyone is interested, here is JJ Jr.'s website (not updated to include today's events):

Annoying- the media here asked Jr.'s lawyer if Jesse Jackson Sr. had retained an attorney? For what? (which was the attorney's response too.) One of them also referred to Jr. as "Reverend." Jr. is not a Reverend, Sr. is. Annoying.

Jr. is giving a press conference right now. Echoing calls for Blago to resign. Categorically denying he had any involvement in a pay to play scheme. He himself did not, and did not authorize anyone to make an offer or "propose a deal" on his behalf. His meeting on Tuesday was the 1st with the Gov. in 4 years. (similar to comments by others that Blago maintained a distance from everyone.)

Based on his reputation here in the city, I have no reason to doubt JJ Jr., but again, you never know. I hope he comes out of this unscathed- I think he is a smart guy who has done some good.

All I see are a bunch of spineless Democrats behaving true to form screaming out loud, arms flailing, not even taking a moment to think before each one of them has to spittingly bluster their outrage and demands of immediate resignation. Ok, so this guy needs to be dealt with. Why does have to be performed in a Circus fashion? Stepping all over one another insisting that they were never within 100 miles of the guy. No dignity or comportment. Just normal Democratic panic. It's embarrassing.

I read or heard in the past hour or two that Jackson declared he was candidate #5; also the OP above turned "might be interested" in pay to play as "willing."

I have no love of JJ Jr. I used to be impressed by him, and actually thought he could be president someday at one point-- in the meantime he's shown again and again that he's only interested in power, money, influence, wealth, power, influence, and money.
I'd compare him to Blago but he's worlds smarter.

Everyone who played the Gov's games should go down hard.
