OWC RAM question f/u (PC weenies?) ((solved))

I just got aroung to tearing into this thing.

It's an HP 8860 pavillion. Maybe 4 years old, came w/ Win ME, 60 GB hard drive, Ahlon-- definitely not the bottom of the line at the time.

There are 2 RAM slots. The first has a 128. I put the 256 in the second. It only sees the 128.

Is there some stupid thing I need to do in the bios?

If so, how do I get to that again?

Or does the RAM have to be in matched pairs?

Have you looked up the RAM specs and placement at HP?

It's almost definitely out of spec. (Or just seated poorly)

It could be too dense, or it could be the wrong speed. How many chips on the RAM? All on one side?

All of the RAM sites including OWC's say this is the right type of RAM for this model.

2 long chips on the RAM. Much different than the existing chip.

Why do you feel so strongly that it's out of spec?

Should I expect a PC like this to recognize RAM automatically?

I imagine this HP is also not included. You have a higher density RAM chip. It doesn't work on G3s and most PCs which don't accept 512 MB chips. That's my opinion on this, anyway.
