Most interesting for everyday use is that USB 3. Damn, that's fast.

And it gives one a hint of why Apple doesn't think the Firewire ports will be all that important in the coming couple years.

It's a shame Firewire is losing ground to USB, if for no other reason, ease of use. A quick glance and you know which way to plug in a Firewire cable. With USB, it's always a 50/50 shot of getting it right the first time. Of course, we know which one Apple had a hand in developing.

I have so many Firewire peripherals, I could never abandon them all.

Fsck USB...
There ain't no "USB Target Disk Mode"...
So, Firewire Forever.

Not that I'm biased or anything...

The rest of the items are cool... particularly the flexible display.

I doubt USB 3 will be faster than FireWire 3200.

I bet it won't be faster than rocket packs.

Regardless of specs, USB is 1/2 as fast as FW even on a good day. With FW1600 and FW3200 coming down the pike, I'm sure things will stay pretty much the same

Agreed.

I don't think Stevie will ever go back to FW on the MacBook. I'm hoping it's not in jeopardy in the rest of the lineup.

Not having read up on either forthcoming updates, will these both be using the same connector?

And will USB drives ever be as reliable as FW for running of Mac Books? No problems with my mini but flakeiness abounds with my 'Books (iBook, PowerBook, and MacBook).

Unlike some, I've only had *one* problem with FW dropping out. That was on my MDD, which I think may itself be suspect in a few ways. Anyway, the FW buss was restored by unplugging for about 10min and zapping the PRAM.

...and will increase the amount of electrical current that can be delivered through a USB cable.

That's something, anyway.
