Can you bring yourself to throw away Apple boxes?
#1
I always keep them for years. I remember I kept the box for my still running Sawtooth for years. I was cleaning the basement yesterday and found my MacBook box. It almost felt like throwing away the whole computer. Should I be worried acting like this?

No. I don't have any problem throwing away cardboard boxes.

yes, it's called ABKS (Apple Box Keepers Syndrome) and there is an ABKSA in your neighborhood that you should join.

I always keep my boxes. They are add resale value and are great for shipping after the sale.

That may be true for eBay, but I sell computers on Craigslist (so I don't need to ship) and have never had someone ask if I had the original box.

I kept the box to my 21" Studio Display CRT monitor for 6 years. I just wanted to make sure if I became homeless; I would have deluxe accommodations. The thing was bigger than a one bedroom apartment in Tokyo. The really sucky part is when the box outlives the equipment it came in. It's there to contantly remind you of the loss. My Studio Display died about 6 months outside of it's Applecare warranty.

I tend to keep all important boxes just in case I need to ship them back or sell the item and need to ship to the buyer.

Answer: No.

I initially justify keeping them by saying I might have to send the product back. Then, after some years, I reason that the box would be cool to have if I sell the product. Of course, I almost never do.

I did sell (or give away) a non-functioning SE recently, and the recipient was delighted to have an original SE carton. You do remember the Mac SE, right?

The solution is to move so far away that you can't justify keeping either the product or the carton.

All Apple computer boxes are worth at least $15-20 on ebay

I'm not one to throw away $20 bills...

No. I have the space and the utility of keeping it outweighs the amount of space it takes up.
