got a dishwasher ?
tail pipe - edit: I've never seen a sprayer cord with a ferrite bead attached. :-) Is that to stop kids from pulling it out too far ?

Where does the other end of that tubing connected to the mystery pipe go to?
Do you have a dish washer? Is that the drain tube from the dish washer, or does that go to an overflow outlet mounted above the counter by the edge of the sink?

Dishwasher drain...thank you; I didn't think of that. That seems incredibly plausible.

Forget all that.
If that pipe is rusted through, get a plumber in to replace it and ask him to re-tape the threads on the trap while he's down there.

tape on compression fittings is supposed to be a no-no

bill b has it right.
You are looking for a sink tail piece with an input for a dishwasher They come in 1-1/4" and 1-1/2 size so you need to know which one you have Use nylon rings at the compression fittings - not tape or dope FWIW - I would just go ahead and by an entire J trap sink kit and get rid of the flex pipe Flex tends to move (and leak) and also the groves allow build up food, grease etc ... You can buy the whole set up - tail piece, trap and all for $15 on plastic or up to $30 or so in heavy brass. I prefer brass but plastic is sufficient.

long branch tail piece
not pipe probably 1-1/4 x 6 inches and I am still interested in what that white clamp's purpose is. 3M 33+ electrical tape (stretch tight) around the brass pipe and a bead of clear silicon at the coupler edge will work for about 6 months if no one disturbs it putting things under the sink. :-) |
