Upgrading to Leopard? Watch out for the broken Mail.app bug...
#1
I've helped a handful of people upgrade in the last couple of weeks, and this issue has hit me almost every time...

You've done your Archive and Install, and everything else seems fine, but when you open Mail, you get no message window, and even when you finally figure out how to get it open, it's completely empty and unresponsive. Then you discover that you can't even quit the program without force-quitting... Very frustrating! I just now found the fix on Apple's support site:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2537

Hope this helps someone else down the road, and saves them a lot of frustration!

I've been having issues with Mail not quitting, especially if it's been open for more than a day. I followed the tip and, though I didn't have all the symptoms, maybe it will help. Thanks for the link.

I just saw the bug migrating a family member. The official work fix posted above didn't work, but there is a trick posted in the apple discussions (about moving the entire mail folder to the desktop before opening mail, then moving it back after it prompts to import) that worked for her.

Thanks for the replies everyone...

I had used the technique mentioned by renderingrocks and michaelb, but figured someone else might benefit from the "official" fix. Next time I run into it, I'll try the Apple fix first, knowing I can fall back on the other one.

Take care,
John
