Why should I NOT buy this 7-port USB hub?

I am tempted to get a few of these for some clients who are always out of ports. Should I skip this generic USB hub for any reason?

Possibly skimpy power adapter, "Power Adapter (110 - 240V 50/60 Hz; DC 5V 1000mA)". That is only enough to power two ports at full power for USB of 500 mA. If they are only going to be plugging in low power or self powered devices it should be okay.

yeah, too little power from the adapter, especially for a 7 port hub.

i'd be concerned that usb 1.0 devices would slow down connected usb 2.0 devices as well although i don't know how justified that fear is.

might still be worth it to pick up a couple for when the client needs just one or two more ports.

Cool, thanks. I will stick with the D-Link 7-port. It costs more but it works for powering devices.

similar looking D-Link model for much more $ has adapter rated 2.5X more powerful; but how many high power devices are you gonna be using? OTOH, at that price, if you're gonna get "a few", maybe get a couple of separate higher powered adapters for the installs that require them. what I couldn't tell from the product page, is whether each port is discrete, or if resources are shared. either way, they share the same bandwidth pipe back to the host computer. try 'em, and post back w/ your findings.

I am skipping the underpowered model I linked to. Even if they don't plan on connecting a powered device now, I don't want to get them something that is a "bargain" that fails to power deices in the future. I am sticking with D-Links and a few of these for the road warriors who need extra ports on their laptops:
