Wireless broadband coming to my house
#1
I live half a mile from a 250 tower that has wireless broadband available. I have signed up for a site survey to see I can receive it, don't see why I couldn't being that I am so close to the tower.
Anyway I am on dialup now using a original Apple airport base station for my desktop and iBook and a PC for wireless internet.
Here is my question when the installer comes to hook my up, I assume he will hook my desktop via ethernet to whatever modem he supplies. Can I then use my airport as a router or do I need to buy something else.

I have the Airport extreme base station and it works as our router. I would assume the original airport would, too.

I have an eMac connected via ethernet to the DSL modem and then the Airport connected to the eMac. Works great.

Is it WiFi or WiMax?

A new provider is now providing WiMax to my high-rise condominium. They put a receiver on the roof and offer broadband through the AC outlets. Different, huh?

And it's $30 a month. I haven't sprung for it yet.

ABS should work fine for you.
What city? What wireless Company?
When my brother had Clearwire installed the tech had to call me to see what to do for networks settings-unlike when he did a Windows install--the Mac was already up and running with the TCP/IP already renewed and functioning.

I have community wifi in my apartment complex, and my Airport Extreme card works fine.
Wavelength is the company that handles it, and they suck.
I hope you have a different company, truly.
When the service goes down, it can take days to get anything above dialup speeds.
