I look around me as I sit here in the kitchen, and, as of this moment, the clocks on the computer, stove, microwave, and toaster oven all agree that it's 5:43 a.m. And then there's the atomic clock; it's trying to convince me it's only 4:43. Silly thing. Does this signify the end of the world or something?

DST settings on the clock are not compliant with federal regulations. I'm sorry, you have to unplug it, package it up, and send it to a federal detention center. Since Gitmo is closing, post it to Camp Anaconda, Afghanistan.

Yes.
(or it indicates that some little piece of software somewhere doesn't have the updated daylight savings schedule)

Today doesn't correspond with even the old daylight savings time change. It was fine when I was in the kitchen last evening, but today it insists on being an hour behind. I didn't think it even "knew" what time it was without a signal. ???

an (atomic clock) clock in my mother's kitchen did a time change at 9AM one morning.
and then was several hours off.
was fine again the next day and since.
I can tell when my clocks need a new battery, the second hand won't climb the hill .

If it was DST, it would have sprung ahead not fallen back, so would be an hour fast not slow. Does it have a region/location setting, you might want to check that and see if that is correct. Otherwise you could just wait and see if corrects itself tonight when it gets the next signal.

Hey, it must have gotten a new signal, because it's correct now! I never did know how often the information was refreshed. It's nice to be out of that time warp!
