"Now you see why the Dell mini 9 is capturing so much attention ...It's a Macbook at a sub-Mac mini price. "

Exactly!

SD,

I hope Apple doesn't do anything that disrupts the usage of a Dell Mini 9 as a "macintosh" netbook. That'd be a pain in the neck. Eventually, I'll have to replace my Winbook Craptop and the Dell Mini 9 is by far the replacement notebook of choice. Unless Apple comes to its senses and offers a Macbook Mini. Smile

I think that is a little misleading. The mini9 is nothing like the MacBook. Only thing they have in common is that they can run OS X and are intel based.

C(-)ris,

What am I missing here? A Dell Mini 9 is a scaled back notebook computer. A Macbook is a notebook computer that isn't scaled back. Of course, they're going to be a bit different, aside the Macbook being an Apple produced Mac. But, to say they are nothing alike is ridiculous.

Hopefully Apple will kick it's butt with some awe-inspiring piece of work that we'll line up around the block to get.

As the owner of both, I'll say it. A Mini9 aint no macbook.

Things that macbooks have that mini's don't/can't have

13" screen
2 ram slots w/4GB max (at least)
usable keyboard
quality track pad
sata hard drive
optical drive
dvi out

that's enough for now, but there's a LOT more...

apple will NEVER offer something this inexpensive - that's the whole appeal... if they matched the size and weight, apple's offering will START at $500.

and I'm fine with that...

Hal,

Never said they were Macbooks. To say they are would be just as ridiculous as saying they are nothing alike. They are both notebooks but geared for entirely different markets.

The quote from the article said they were MacBooks. That is what Hal and I were commenting on. You seem to agree but the article does not, the writer said "Now you see why the Dell mini 9 is capturing so much attention ...It's a Macbook ..." Which to me is saying that he thinks the mini9 does everything a MacBook could do.
