24 hrs in Flagstaff - Fun things to do?
#1
I'll be in Flagstaff, Az this weekend for roughly 24 hrs. I could use some suggestions for quick/fun things to do in the area.

I've been to Meteor Crater, Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, Grand Canyon & other things sort of in the vicinity. Not sure what else there is.

I visited it a couple of time three years ago. There is the Lowell observatory in town, Sedona and the Oak Creek Canyon a short distance south. I recall there were a couple of nice microbreweries in town as well.

That's Falstaff, not Flagstaff...

Lowell Observatory is nice. On top of Mars Hill. (where Clyde W. Tombaugh discovered Pluto)
There's a nice used book store called Bookmans.

My sister used to live in Flagstaff.. nice town.

I doubt there's still snow but I've skied there before and had a great time!

Thanks for the replies. My responses:

Carm - yes, I had already googled it. However, I asked the question on this forum because I value real opinions. I realize I don't "know" many people on this forum, but even though they're complete strangers, I'd like to know their opinions of what's fun in Flagstaff. Smile

I got tired of visiting the google links I found (like flagstaffarizona.org). I kinda knew what was there but I wanted to know what others, who've been there, have found to be "fun."

blooz - it's a bit too early for the snakeys to be out. I do know that Az has some strict herp collecting laws. I would love to go look but not touch. Smile Ironically enough, the reason I'm going to Flagstaff is to pick up a couple of snakes for my mother. They're captive bred but native to Az, so our friend couldn't sell them - only gift them. So, gotta go pick up our gifts.

JEBB - of the 3 you mentioned, which would you say is the best one to visit?

Paul F. Hmmm, Bookmans. I will have to google that. Might be worth a visit. BTW, Paul, I met Clyde Tombaugh some time ago before he died. He lived in Las Cruces, NM (where I went to college) & he spoke at some honors dinner thing I went to. He was very nice. I'll never forget that. It's not EVERY day that one gets to meet a person who discovered a planet (in our solar system)!

zachdog, nah. There's skiing here in NM too. Although, this winter's been so dry that not many places have opened. Those that have are using primarily man-made snow.

Stephanie;

If you met Clyde Tombaugh, then you would enjoy Lowell Observatory...

One of the things they have on display is the blink-comparator he used and original photographic plates that had the first images of Pluto on it.

That, and the refractor telescope they have there is a beautifully build brass and bronze instrument with teak wood handles...

I don't know what hours or days this time of year they have tours (if they're open this time of year at all), but worth some time if it fits in your schedule..
