Hack my Philips CD Clock Radio to Play iPod?
#1
I'd like to plug my iPod into my clock radio for bedroom listening.
I have a Philips CD Clock Radio AJ3980. It has an audio-out for headphones, but not an audio-in. Is there any way I can hack this baby to turn the audio-out into an audio-in? A gadjet that reverses the signal, or some light soldering and rewiring, perhaps?

Yes, I know there are now CD Clock Radios like iHome that let you play your Pod. iHome worked with my Pod but I couldn't get ANY radio stations with it. And I have yet to find an FM transmitter that actually works.

BUT IF anyone has found a cd clock radio that lets them iPod and gets decent FM reception, I'm all ears on that, too.

Honestly, no.

Are you saying that an iTrip really wouldn't work sitting 8 inches from a clock radio?

Sure, there's a way. But it would be very troublesome. You could find the stereo audio lines on the circuit board that lead to the volume control and hack in a 3.5" jack. I did it several years ago on an old boom box so that I could play my portable CD player. But in those days the circuit boards weren't nearly as crowded as today's electronics.

It would be quite a chore, and you'd probably mess up your clock radio in the process.

I was just looking for a clock radio for my roomie at Target, saw several with audio in, I even saw a Sony, most were off brands.
You have to visit the B&M, Target's website is crap.

Arrg, thanks anyway, all. No, I don't have an iTrip, don't want to fork out the dough and have it not work as I've already done twice with other models.

I'd just upgrade to the new, iPod-friendly version of my old radio, but of course it seems they've discontinued the line I have and like.

Maybe I'll check Target out...thanks again.
