The tale of two sleepovers
#1
Long story short. We put our kids to bed at a reasonable hour. (sure, that's an opinion)

Last night was my son's 13th birthday party with friends. We let him have some boys over, played basketball and such until 10 pm. ONE boy was allowed to spend the night. They played video games after that for a couple of hours. And went to sleep.

My 8 year old daughter went to another friend's house (Her friend. And a guy a used to work with's daughter, coincidentally). It was the other girl's birthday. My wife just picked up our daughter. Our daughter has not YET gone to bed!!:banghead:Confusedoapbox:

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined they would let them stay up ALL FREAKING NIGHT! My daughter is crying she is so tired. (I know.. she's a big BABY!!!! Smile ) This is my first time to encounter parents allowing this at this age. I guess we will have to write out formal contracts with these people in the future. Wink

There goes our chance at a normal Saturday!! sigh.

On the plus side for last night, I ordered six pizzas for the boys, and made each HALF (of a pizza) with different toppings so I could try out combinations I would not normally try. Some worked, some didn't. The beef, ham and jalapenos was a good mix.

I really LIKE and get along with those parents, too. They are really nice folks. I just wish they would have communicated with us that this was even within the realm of possibility, is all.

Bananas and pizza.

The pizzas in one form or another had
tomatoes
two kinds of peppers
onions
pineapple

so, not ALL bad. Matter of fact, they were complaining I didn't get only/all pepperoni! Oh well.

I'm not a parent so I honestly don't know the protocol in these things and I understand why you are upset. That said, when I was an 8 year old girl, the whole POINT of a sleepover was to stay up all night!! Smile

I think you should take your daughter back over to the friend's house and leave her there for the day. Tell the parents that since they created this mess, they can deal with it. Smile

No, I'm kidding. I do think that was extremely irresponsible of them, though. Eight year olds are way too young to be allowed to stay up all night, and I strongly suspect the fact they weren't made to go to bed was pure laziness on the part of the parents.

A steamed assortment of vegetables not slathered in oil and cheese including cauliflower should've been served to the boys as an option. Along with the option of an ice cold soy milk beverage. Were you supervising during the video game session? Was there on-screen digital representations of.. *gasp* FIREARMS depicted?? HMMMmm??
