Followup to "I can't see the headers from one sender in Leopard Mail"
#1
OP here: http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1...msg-765675

... I still haven't fixed this problem, no matter what I've tried (mailbox rebuild, repairing permissions, etc.), but I just discovered something else weird:

When I try to write this sender an email (but NOT as a reply to one of hers), I start to type her first name, and a few choices come up. Two of the choices are the same email address, but one of them is enclosed in quotes and the other not. That is, "Jane Q. Public" and Jane Q. Public . If I try to select the first one, but NOT the second one, I cannot actually select it, and cannot therefore write the email. If I select the second one, I'm OK.

(She wrote to tell me, no, she is not using any weird graphics in her emails, and no, she isn't using any odd fonts-- in fact, she told me she is using our institution's webmail...)

I'm guessing that it is something corrupt in Mail's sender/recipient list or something? Is there a pref file that I should particularly be thinking to trash?

What do you guys make of this? TiA

Mail : Window : Previous Recipients

Delete the entries for her email address.

Then launch the Address Book, copy the information from the entry for her. Delete and re-create the entry for her in the Address Book.

Hmmmm... when I do Previous Recipients, nothing happens. No new window comes up. (It's as if it's switching to another window, but doesn't then go to that window... same thing happens when I try to respond to one of her emails.)

Quit Mail.

If you haven't deleted the entry and re-entered the contact info for your friend in the Address Book, do so now and then quit the Address Book.

Go to "~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook"

Remove these 2 files:
MailRecents-v4.abcdmr
AddressBook-v22.abcddb

Launch the Address Book to rebuild its index.

Launch Mail.

Can you access Previous Recipients now?

Do you see the headers if you go to View: Message: Raw Source ?

Bingo! That did it, thanks so much.

BTW, the person in question has never been in my Address Book.

Now, removing her from the Previous Recipients list, I can now see all her emails and their headers.

So... what to make of this? What exactly was the problem, a corrupted pref file as I suggested?

Probably a corrupted previous recipients database.

Not sure how it relates to the other symptoms.

Mail kinda sucks.
