Swap iphones?

My wife and I are on the same AT&T plan. I have an 8gb iphone 3G. My wife just ordered a 16gb iphone 3G refurb. I convinced her to swap phones with me. She doesn't need the extra space.

Anyway, can I swap out the sim cards? Do I have to activate the new iphone before swapping the sim cards?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

As far as I know, you swap SIMS, you've swapped phones.

DISCLAIMER: I've never done this personally, but should work:

When the 16GB arrives, activate it with your wife's number.

Back up each phone to its own itunes. (control click the phone in the itunes sidebar)

Swap SIMs.

Plug in 16GB phone into your itunes. Restore from backup.

Plug in 8GB phone into her itunes. Restore from backup.
