Reality Junkies--Extreme Makeover Home Edition is in town
#1
Ty Pennington and Co are in town to film Extreme Makeover. Looks like demolition and build begins tomorrow. Really surprised at the buzz this has generated. Apparently there were so many volunteers they had to turn folks away. I guess I'll have to break down and watch this episode when it airs.

From what I have heard and read, the show does good things. Everybody likes it except some neighbors that live close by. Apparently they work day and night. You won't sleep for a week.

I'd like to see some pictures of the operation from afar, see what their cameras don't show.

In case you miss it, I can tell you what happens: We find out how needy and swell the worthy family is. Ty yells into a megaphone. The owners see their renovated home. They cry. Everybody cries. The crowd gathers outside the home and cries and waves. The stars leave.

I know "Extreme" is "Extreme" but sometimes I think what they do is "To Over The Top". I mean, they could help put 2-3 families in a better situation with the $$$$ the spend on one.

You left out the part where the family each says "Oh my God!" 30 times each and the house is filled with labels of sponsors.

It's one of maybe three "reality" shows I like.

The empathy/sympathy/drama stuff is pumped to ad nauseam often, but still... What they do for people is amazing. I wonder how a house holds up twenty or thirty years later.

Sometimes the shows are so well done, so poignant, everybody cries.

So I hear.

That is exactly what happened to a house they did in the metro Atlanta area. The people took out a huge mortgage on the remodeled house to start a business which went bust and, you guessed it, the house went into foreclosure.

It's called "Greed". You can put the overextended family into a paid off situation... And they will "re-overextend" themselves.
