PC Deep Sleep Mode

My daughter has a Dell Dimension 4600 running XP. She doesn't have much for tech support. Every time I go to her place the fan on the Dell is running. Isn't there a "sleep" mode on the Dell that is like the Mac's deep sleep, which shuts off the fans and draws very little power, yet will wake up in less than 30 seconds?

Maybe a "hibernate" mode or something like that?

I don't "do" PC's, so please be thorough in any explanation/instructions you might offer.

The motherboard and power supply need to support it. The manual seems to imply the Intel 865PE chipset supports at least Standby.

Right click on the desktop and select Properties*, click on the Screen Saver tab, then the Power button, and it should pull up the Power Options Properties panel. There you can configure Power Schemes and there will be a Hibernate tab if the hardware supports it.

* or go to Control Panels, Display, Screen Saver, etc.

Edit: you can find a fair amount of information by just opening My Computer, clicking on Help, Help and Support Center.
