I wouldn't call it old-style animation. It looks like the same stuff DC has been putting on Cartoon Network for the past 10 years or so.

And why was Abin Sur in a space ship anyway? None of the rest of the Corps ever used one.

Well, old-style as compared to the CGI stuff, which always looks unnatural and very artificial to me.

As for why Abin Sur was in a spaceship -- that's a good point, and one which has been brought up a few times. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abin_Sur#Spaceship ... my personal take on it was that he was badly enough injured that he couldn't manage a long-range trip to Earth only via power ring.
