Need a laptop hard drive recommendation
#1
I'm pulling the SSD out of my laptop and putting it in my tower. I was thinking of putting the original HD back in but it seems kinda slow now. I know no traditional HD is going to be as fast as a SSD, but I'd still like to speed things up a bit over the stock Fujitsu 120GB 5400rpm drive. It looks like tests on it show it maxes out around 39MB/s.

I'm looking at the Seagate Momentus 5400.6 320GB drive, but haven't found any tests with it. It's $50 at newegg. I want at least a 120GB drive.

Thanks

larger drive = faster. 500GB WD Scorpio Blue.

Yeah, I know platter density helps. Just trying to figure out by how much. The 500GB WD Scorpio Blue is $90... $40 more than the 320GB Seagate.

huh, $90?! I bought my WD 500GB Blue drive for $80 a few months ago, I'd guess you could find it in the $70-range somewhere by now.

Was that a Dell sale? It might be on sale for that again if you can wait a couple of weeks.

I checked barefeats but there haven't been much in the way of 2.5" drives lately

I'm curious to know if that's a dell deal as well.
