Entertaining piece, although I'm not sure we need to know that bit about the parents selling sheets . . .

He's been in poor health for years, but the world is a little sadder place without Soupy.

Somehow I missed seeing him, that I remember anyway, but one of my exes remembered the time he got suspended for a while for having the kids sing a song that had the line, "If you see kay…"

Watched him in Detroit; before he went to New York, then national.

He helped a lot of kids develop a more adult, wry sense of humor.

Watched him growing up then forgot about him. Then, around 1990, my SO at the time and I went to a comedy club to see his show. Man, was he filthy! Funny, but dirty. Not at all how I remember him from the kids show!

Took me a while . . .

I just remember him as the guy they plugged into a Hollywood Square or a Gong Show "celebrity" panel seat when they couldn't get anyone else. Thanks for the perspective . . .

Does anyone remember watching Soupy Sales on the show "What's My Line?" Had to be around '72-'74.

That's my memory of him also.

I remember when he got suspended for telling the kids to go in their mother's purses and send him all the green paper with the pictures of presidents!

Every once in a while, he would slip up and there would be some pretty serious double entendre jokes on the kiddie show.
