No worries, I have confirmed that one can connect to a browse the internet from an Atom-based netbook using a non-Macintosh OS.

I wouldn't underestimate the community that has worked hard to bring OS X to x86 machines. It depends what Apple puts in place and can that be circumvented.
A person has to understand that any OS update could brick a Hackintosh. That's the price we pay for admission.
That isn't to say we're left with a useless machine. If I couldn't run Leopard on my Mini 9, I could easily go back to Ubuntu and still use the machine for it's intended purpose.

Without 'mini' posts, we might as well fold up this forum and go home.

10.6.1 is a good OS, as are older versions on 10.5, for these netbooks.
I really doubt such a problem cannot be addressed. But it may take a little while.

I found Ubuntu 9.04 UNR adequate for the little I want to do with my DM9. UNR also gave me the opportunity to learn something about Linux. So far my conclusion is that Apple doesn't have much to fear from Ubuntu but M$ does.

this makes me think of a question I have wanted to ask, but had little reason to do so, as I have not yet made the Hackintosh leap:
which is the better OS for a netbook (Appley-speaking), Snow Leopard, Leopard or Tiger? I'm thinking in terms of speed and stability, not necessarily of features.

It’s not out in the wild yet, but 10.6.2 has been confirmed to kill support for the Intel Atom processor, this is especially important for Hackintosh users who have hacked various Atom based netbooks to run Snow Leopard...
FYI: Dell Mini, Ausus Eee PC, MSI Wind all use Atom processors.
Doesn't the MacBook Air use an Atom processor too?
