Website Logs Question - who is adv-adserver.com?
#1
I monitor my website logs throughout the month, and a peculiar referring domain has recently (last 2 or 3 months) risen to the top of the pile.

adv-adserver.com is now my number 1 referring domain. I tried to dig for what that is, but I'm getting absolutely nowhere. It's from a server located in San Antonio, TX. Here's the whois info:

Anybody have any ideas? Like I said, it is now my number one referral, and I just want to know who/what it is. Does anybody else have this pop up in their logs?

Thanks!

It might be fake click through traffic.

Looking at search results on the name, it is: a partner to your click tracking service, they serve third party banner ads, some company that is trying to make a name in SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Do you have Google or some other big ad company banners on your site? What do you use for tracking? Have you bought keywords?

We recently (end of September, this year) signed up in the Google Adwords program. I don't have any 3rd party content on my site at all, except for a couple of CGI scripts I bought and installed. That was years ago, however.

I use Summary for my site tracking - http://www.summary.net/

Bought keywords = yes

I looked at the site you linked to, but don't understand your question. My tracking page for the domain in question is here: http://www.diequa.com/temp/picture.png

.
Warning: I just looked at the site that the tracking is for, Not Safe For Work. Sorry.

I should have been a little more specific, the link I posted has "http ://www.adv-adserver.com/tserve/itrafficserver.html" as the the #1 referrer at nearly exactly the same percentage as you just posted. Scroll down to #Top 10 Referrers. The current tracking results are different so they either stopped something, or...? :dunno: Maybe Google has banned their site for spam or illegal optimization...

Since you have multiple things that might have triggered the linking, it is hard to say why. Have your total hits gone up or did this just hijack your inbound tracking so you can not see where the traffic is coming from?
