I think I lost my verizon phone
#1
Bummer. I think I lost my env2. I'm not in love with the phone but I did like having a keypad for texting and very basic access to email and browsing. It was no iphone, but it was sufficient for me.

I got the phone for a discounted price ($150 off I think) when I re-upped for a 2 year contract. I think that was almost 2 years ago. I'm on a family plan where 4 people share 500 minutes. We rarely go over 300 minutes. It costs me $100/mo. I'm pretty happy with my plan, but tell me if there is something way better out there that I can port my 4 numbers to.

I'm not sure I'll stick with verizon long term, so I'm not sure I want to renew my 2-year agreement just for a discount on a new phone. Is there a source where I can get a env2 or similar phone used or at a discount? Will verizon activate any verizon-compatible phone so that I'm not forced to renew my contract?

Thanks for any help, advice or recommendations.

You can activate a Verizon-compatible phone by phone in a couple of minutes for free. Or you can take it into the store and they'll do the same thing for something like $10.

We just bought a couple of phones to replace a bad one and as a backup for little $ on eBay for the same reason. I'm at the end of my contract and I want to sit and wait for a while. I'm going to see how the Droid shakes out. I had thought I'd wait for the iPhone, but maybe not.

The env2 is selling for $75-$100+ on eBay. Given that you're not crazy about the phone and that you don't seem to know for sure that it's gone, it might be worth buying a cheap LG or something from eBay while you consider it. If you stay with Verizon you could eventually buy a higher end phone in the secondary market and the cheap one could sit in a drawer for moments like this. All of this without renewing your contract.

You can activate the phone with no issues...in fact, you can do it yourself by accessing your Verizon Account online. I frequently go between phones and do it all of the time (even in times like yours when I lost/broke a phone and used an old one of mine or just one I bought for a stop-gap.)

I'm not sure the best place to get one, but as far as activating it once you have it, it's very simple and can even be done online if you have signed up for their online account management (for free).

If not, I believe you can go to a Verizon store and have them activate it on your account as well. No need to renew any contract.

Actually the only reason you would need to renew your contract was if they were giving you a discount on a phone you were buying from them.

A friend recently broke the charging port on his enV. He got a refurbed enV from the Verizon store for $50. So, depending on your price range you might want to check them out.

Er, in the meantime, be sure to contact verizon and tell them your phone is missing. We've had horrific charges run up for ringtones, game downloads, etc on our cell phones that someone else "found"

No need to go to a store (if you don't, or can't, do it online). Just give them a call on the 800-number and they'll do it over the phone with you. No charge.

OH, and if anyone tries to use a STOLEN or LOSt phone with Verzon, they will not allow it to be used.
