sailing in arizona
#1
Most people think that sounds crazy, sailing in arizona, but it makes perfect sense. It is getting cold here in washington state so I flew to AZ to visit my brother and we rented a sailboat for the day. We sailed lake pleasant which is about an hour north of phoenix. It was our first time out on our own and we did great. Nobody fell overboard, didn't ram any other boats or go aground. The boat itself was a beater and came with instructions on what to do if it suddenly started taking on a lot of water. We tried to disregard the strong fuel smell which dissipated after we got moving...when we were topside at least. Here is a pic of me and there are more at http://gallery.mac.com/davecalhoun#100945/IMG_0943-JPG&bgcolor=black .

Looks like great fun. However, let's take a look at the ingredients...

1. Two guys
2. A sailboat
3. Decent weather
4. Lots of free time

What could be missing?...

...hookers and booze.

We did take a couple of beers with us for after sailing. Unfortunately we tipped the cooler over and the beers sprung a leak. That was a mess.

I love this new hobby of sailing.

How big of a boat is that ? Looks to be 22' to 24' or maybe a bit bigger

Sounds like a tragedy. What happened...did you let the hookers mess with the icebox?

It was a 30' hunter. It was in very poor shape. Sails were tattered and lines were all over the place. There was an identical one right next door at the dock that was much better maintained. A pastor and his wife lived aboard part time, very nice people.

I thought it looked like it might be a Hunter, but hard to tell without a full shot.
