I've just lent my Fuji Finepix S9500 to number two daughter to see how she gets on with a slightly more sophisticated camera to her current point and shoot. She loves taking photos and with her simple p&s she has managed some excellent pictures but has been a bit frustrated when some don't come out due to the camera's limitations. My Fuji isn't modern or a DSLR but it has produced some excellent shots under difficult conditions but unfortunately it is bigger. I like to go out walking and carrying that lump needs a waterproof bag or backpack so I had been wondering about a more compact camera for myself. I have just hit the button for a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7 which is known as a DMC-ZS3 in the USA. No going back now and we won't see my daughter again until Christmas when she and her partner are staying but will I be disappointed with the new camera? It's had very good reviews but I guess the size means that there will still be some compromises compared with the Fuji. Probably should have posted something here before buying as there are many knowledgeable photobuffs here. Any thoughts?

Just keep it below ISO 800 and you'll be fine. Have fun with it!

does numbering your offspring cause any problems?

With most cameras in that class with the smaller sensor, do as the above says and stay below ISO 800. More pixel density actually hurts image quality now that they have tried to cram more than 8mp in those chips.

No problems as they know it is based on time scale and not anything else. She is also known as Joanna.

Referring to a child as #2 might cause some long term emotional issues. Please email her the link to this thread and report back to us. :turbo:

I have two daughters, the emotional issue would only occur if I referred to the youngest as number three. :-)

I did have a few minutes with one in a camera shop to make sure that my big fingers and thumbs could get on with the buttons. Tested the macro, burst and zoom to make sure it macroed, bursted and zoomed but that's it.
