Store Discord May Result in Employee Walk-Out
#1
This item is a few months old, did anyone else see this?

I've been a customer at this store. I even worked there briefly in 2006, during the winter season. I remember management/employee relations weren't exactly ideal, but I assumed it was temporary. In general I've known it to be a great store with a friendly staff.

Store discord at Apple! What would Santa say?

Store Discord May Result in Employee Walk-Out

September 22nd, 2009

Apple’s retail stores carry the company’s brand and culture around the world, but really, each location has its own personality based largely on the management staff. Now, staffers at the Alderwood Mall (Wash.) retail store say their complaints about “abusive” management and possible state and federal labor law violations at the store have been ignored by the company, and they are threatening to stage a walk out at 1 p.m. on October 3rd to protest. If it occurs, it would be the first such labor action by Apple store employees. According to insiders, the employees’ complaints haven’t been fully investigated by the company’s human resources department. After reaching an impasse with Sr. VP Retail Ron Johnson over the issue, a group of Specialists, Geniuses and Creatives say they will walk out to bring attention to their complaints, and that several former employees will join the protest. *sigh* Why not just get another job? If you don't like your job, get a different one. If you're incapable of getting another job, then be glad you've got one.

Obviously more details on the situation would help, but that's pretty much my take for most jobs - especially retail. It's in a shopping mall. Go down the walkway and get a job at Starbucks, JC Penny's, the other Starbucks, Sears, the other Starbucks...

Because sometimes (yes, even in retail... the Rodney Dangerfield of professions) you love your job but can't stand the person who is your boss for perfectly legitimate reasons.

Oh yeah, 'cause jobs are so easy to come by in 2009! And money to pay bills, so easy to come by! ... isn't that right, M A V I C? Just walk into any retail store on the square, all those Starbucks and Bed Bath and Beyond minimum wage jobs, they just can't keep up with demand for fresh employees! Retail slaves quit cryin' and just go fill out an application across the street, they're all hiring! Right? *sigh* *wheeze* "hey you caroling Apple Store whipper snappers, get off my lawn! *cough* *sigh*

Absolutely, we need bullies to win every time otherwise we would have nothing to moan about. Labor laws are for wimps and constant abuse can only make you better.

That alone is not abusive. Not even close.

So get a job at another Apple Store location? There's another one about 15 minutes away. Or find another job that you'll love and stand the management. If this was some sort of skilled labor or isolated area where such jobs were scarce, I'd understand.

There's tons of retail jobs available in the area right now. Most retail stores have fairly high turnover so if there's not a job available, there will be one before long.

One local company just hired about 1000 employees for largely entry level employees. Most people I know in that area that are looking for entry level jobs are getting to choose between which job offers they want.

Evidence please. This state is pretty good at cracking down on this sort of stuff. If there were real labor law violations, the AG would be all over them. The state needs money too and they're searching everywhere to get it. If Apple is violating labor laws, you can bet the state is going to want to cash in.

If you say that one more time, you leave me no choice but to walk out!
