I know the $200 512 MB ATI 4870 likely has advantages for gamers, but is there any real advantage for use in Final Cut Studio 3 over the stock 512MB nvidia?

What type of work in FCS3? That encompasses a lot of different applications with a lot of differing needs.

Motion 2 and 3 used to do well on the higher end Radeon cards. I have not seen any benchmarks of the Radeon 4xxx series cards with Motion 4 but MacWorld UK implied it was very fast.
