Apple Hardware Test Question
#1
Hi all, been having problems with burning DVDs...Apple suggested running AHT and I am looking at the screen now but I can't seem to find how to select which tests to run. So far, I only seem able to run the Memory test.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am pretty sure that there is no AHT test for checking to see if DVDs burn. They gave you a scripted answer that makes no sense.

Does it not check the Superdrive?

Run the extended tests. If you've got a problem with your ATA/SATA bus, something might turn up.

Most problems with burners are actually issues with poor media. What's your specific issue? Did you try a different brand of DVD media?

Apple had me reset the SMC (sp?) and so I burned two DVDs (Verbatims) then used a no name brand DVD which resulted in the error I posted about a few days ago. Popped in another Verbatim and it too went tits up.

Am running the extended tests right now.

Here is my earlier post.

Have you tried burning at a slower speed?

Some drives just can't burn at maximum speed under less than ideal conditions. Some media is rated for higher speed burns than it should be.

Try burning your DVDs at 4x.

They're all burned at 4x, just in case.

Hoookay.

Try making a disk image before you burn and then burn from the disk image instead of files and folders.

Ok the Apple HT says no problems found and I used the extended test.

Am going to start burning just Verbatims and see what happens.

Edit: No problems so far on the first one...

Ok, that's it...gonna have to call Applecare again...did two Verbatim DVDs with no problem but now the third one just went tits up with the 0x8002006E error. Looks like in the meantime I will have to resort to using a Windows machine. Wow...this will really impress the wife...
