No iPad for Tiger users?
#1
I have 2 eMacs running OS 10.4 Tiger and want to buy an iPad.
On Apple's site it says:

Mac system requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 9.0

Will I not be able to buy and use an iPad unless I but a new Mac first or will I be able to go ahead and just not be able to use certain features. ?

oh crap - I didn't realize that a computer was required - I thought the ipad was a computer. I was telling my mom that this little goodie may get her a kindle and do all of the computing needs... and she could get rid of her mac mini...

too bad

It looks to me as though it can run without a host mac.

what would your mom do with it?

Now I'm getting confused too how the iPad works. If you need a computer also and you are currently connected to the internet, why would you also have to pay $15 or $30 per month for service?

What if you are sitting in your car trying to use it? How would you connect to the internet then? Same concept as an iPhone...

They've had better luck making it work with a PC:

PC with USB 2.0 port
Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 9.0 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
iTunes Store account
Internet access

That may be the better solution.

Bout if the "best" surfing device ever, why would you need another computer to access the iTunes store?

just simple mom stuff - she REALLY hates sitting in front of a compuer AND is dying to get a kindle.

I'm trying to see if this thingy will do all that she needs

I thought it was a stand alone too, but those specs say otherwise

I believe that requirement is just if you want to sync it with your computer. If you don't want to import music or videos from your computer's iTunes account or transfer files to/from your Mac, then you wouldn't need to worry. It is a stand alone device, if you want it to be.
