US swine flu epidemic shows signs of being over.

Is the U.S. swine flu epidemic over? Federal health officials won't go so far as to
day that, but on Friday they reported for the fourth week in a row that no states
had widespread flu activity. U.S. cases have been declining since October. An
official with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says swine flu cases
are still occurring and are likely to continue a while longer at some level.

Next: "Global Warming" substitute for "US swine flu epidemic" in headline.
There was an epidemic? Most of the drugstores are overloaded with vaccine. I
work on a college campus and I think we had 7 cases and they were very light.
I heard of one case since last fall. One. He was well in 3-4 days, just like with
the regular flu. Some epidemic. This is a fine sign of what a government run
socialist healthcare system would be like.

Never took it seriously, especially when it disappeared for months then all of a sudden made a come back. Something fishy. Remember, termite inspectors always find termites.

Maybe the government's plan worked. Maybe the vaccination clinics worked. The most vulnerable groups, health care workers, the elderly, children and pregnant women got their flu shots. This prevented deaths and the spread of the virus.

What would have been your response if there had been an epidemic and thousands had died? You would have berated the government for not doing enough and letting people die.

In any case, thousands did die. As of the beginning of December the count was listed as 10,000 in the US since April, with over 200,000 sick enough to require hospitalization. The death toll could have been higher, but they found many of the younger victims could tolerate the aggressive drug treatment needed for pneumonia related to the flu. The immunizations were more to avoid a third wave of H1N1 starting in January or this month.

I should have said "hundreds of thousands" died. Thanks for stats, JoeH.

Is that the same logic as jobs "saved"?

Swine 'flu ranks up there with some other deliberate pseudo-scientific frauds created or abetted
by governments to impose their will and restrictions on their subjects-citizens. H1N1 has been a
terrible bust and was almost certainly known to have been one since the great scare started. I'm
starting to feel invincible. I have survived the Jupiter effect, Y2K, west nile virus, sars, bird flu,
and swine flu (2 times). When I was growing up, I rode a bicycle without a helmet, drank out of
garden hoses, played battle ball at school, and played with bb guns and fireworks. Now if I can
just avoid the obamacare death panels I'll be in good shape. Sometimes the experts are wrong.
Especially the ones whose grant funding depends on their promotion of the next crisis.

Went to drug store yesterday for nutritional bars. There was a big sign outside offering FREE
swine flu shots. What a laugh. It had to be one the ballerinas 'don't let a crisis go to waste' moments.
Great post Honky Tonk Angel, Now that you mention it, I feel a little invincible myself!
