please?
About a year ago I was all set to buy a Samsung VRT washer from my local big box. About $1100, IIRC.
After posting here and reading about them elsewhere, I got cold feet. The longer I go, the more I lose, as my H2O bills are very high. Plus, the kW savings.
What is the latest tech and how do owners of HE machines who have at least a couple of years of ownership feel about theirs ?
thanks

We have a 5 yo Sears/Kenmore W/D combo. Beasts! Probably Whirpool made.
But we've been very happy with them.
My spousal unit does huge horse laundry in them.
She's very happy. And when she's happy she's prolly had one of my margareeneis

Check for rebates. Even my local water company has a $200 rebate available.

We have Maytag's that we've had for a couple of years. Easy to use, quiet, efficient and they do a great job of cleaning our clothes without beating them up. Great purchase.

I bought a new front-loading washing machine 2 1/2 years ago based on Consumer Reports "Best Buy" recommendation-----Frigidaire Gallery GLTF2940 at Lowe's for $640.
Very very happy with it, so happy that I bought a second one for our new lake cabin (this time at Sears on sale for $619).
I was gratified to note that in the May 2010 edition of CR that it is still a recommended washer and is also the least expensive one listed.

Show me a washer with just an on-off switch and I'll jump.

Here you go Dakota. I remember my mom using one of these. I guess ours was a Maytag.

Love my Whirlpool (3 yrs old) but the only problem with it (shared by many HE washers) is the mold smell - have to run bleach through it regularly, as well as manually clean the rubber seals with bleach, and also take out the detergent drawer and clean it regularly too.
This is all with doing the things I'm supposed to do with it like leaving the door open so it'll dry out faster, and I also live in a very low-humidity area. Can't imagine how bad the problem would be in other parts of the country.

Absolutely love my Whirlpool Cabrio HE top-loading washer, which I 've had for 2 years. No mold issues, as with the front-loaders. Cleans very well, operates so quietly you can't tell it's running on most cycles. Handles bulky items like sleeping bags and comforters well. Lots of setting options, but very easy to use. Smart machine.

We've now had at least one of every kind of wash load go thru our newish Amana/Maytag/Whirlpool (built by Samsung) 7300 series washer/dryer front-load set. We've never had clothes come out so clean from any previous machine, and it uses a ridiculously small amount of water. Paid less than $600 each for the pair at Home Despot, got free delivery and old unit take-away. Looks like a real deal.
Ratings on line looked high-average and efficiency ratings won't knock your socks off, but actual performance *significantly* exceeds all of our expectations. BTW, so far no mildew smell at all here in wetter-than-wet W. Washington, whereas the older Kenmore Elite top loading Elite/Calypso always had a mildew smell. The new Amana washer has silver or some such in the door seal to help kill odors. Seems to work.
