Question about upgrade strategy

Prev post here: http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1...msg-915165

... I just got a 500GB drive to go in the Mini. Question is ... does it make the most sense to clone from the drive now in the Mini (120GB I think) to the 500GB, then install the 500GB, then use Migration Assistant to import my data from the Quicksilver? Or is there a smarter way to do this?

TiA

P.S. ... still looking for advice on a replacement LCD ...

I would do a fresh install of 10.6 to the new drive-then migrate from the 120GB then migrate from the QS

Do not partition.

You can run 2 displays on the mini (MiniDisplayPort and MiniDVI) and add more monitors via USB>DVI

I would install the 500GB in the mini.
Put the G4 into Firewire target mode.
Connect the G4 to the mini.
Use carbon copy cloner to clone the G4 to a disk image on the mini.
You can run Migration Assistant from the mounted disk.
You will always have a backup of the G4 handy until you need the space.

I'm with Ken Sp. Let Migration Assistant do all the work on a fresh install. Do all the Software Updates before running MA.

Hi guys, followup question-- what's the advantage of a fresh install versus a clone, since the cloning is faster and I can't do the install on the Quicksilver (meaning, I'd have to install the drive first, then install on the Mini)...
