Huh, that's still pretty rich. I can wait.

The high end of anything is costly. I, also, wish it were less but at least it is a tax write-off for me.

I'm very pleased so far with this OWC 120GB SSD. Ran less than $250.

Remember, you need a SATA-6Gb connection to see those top speeds with the newest drives. If you have a 3Gb SATA connection or slower, the OWC SSDs are the fastest available.

or the current OCZ 2 line...

The new MBPs have the 6Gb connection in the HD bay, 3Gb connection in the optical bay.

I have a 750GB 7200 on the way that will go in the optical bay. Once I get the OCZ SSD, I will clone my boot drive (currently the 500GB 7200 Apple stock) and put in the SSD in its place.

I still remember when I thought 100MB drives were huge!

what adapter to you use to install a HD in Optical bay? any idea how much battery life will suffer?

I went with this solution as it comes with an enclosure where I can put my removed optical drive.

I am burning less and less these days, but as long as there is optical media, I need that solution.

Not sure the impact on battery life, but I will let you know.

I'm running SSD-boot drive, HD in optical bay solution in this Santa Rosa MBP. The battery life has improved over the straight hd/optical drive setup.

Not really sure why except that the SSD uses less power, and the hard drive only spins up when accessing.

Oh, and the optical drive doesn't keep turning off and on with no disc in it!

does anyone make an optical/hd replacement thing for my old MacBook 2,1?
