Maybe so, but the whole military buildup was to "get the people who did this" (actually it was to build up to get into Iraq, as noted by many).
If OBL was killed early on, Iraq wold have been a tougher sell, as it had nothing to do with 9/11.

Think about it-- if the current administration were less interested in truthfulness than in shaping public opinion, it could justify basically any course of action with the mysterious intelligence collected in the raid.

The fact is that people do rally around a President in times of crisis. Obviously September 11th was a crisis, as opposed to what happened this week which is more what I would refer to as a "triumph".
