Not a big deal, I guess, maybe to some people. If your name is visible in someone else's Sidebar and if access to your drive is not password-protected, it could become a big deal to you. Bored while sitting at the Honolulu airport a few months ago, I investigated all the computers listed in my Sidebar. Most were password-protected, but one wasn't. This guy had multiple documents related to his business in plain view. Spreadsheets, invoices, upcoming gigs... you name it, it was on display. If I were the type of person to do so, I could have wiped out his business in just a few minutes. Instead, I opened a text document on his desktop and left him a note to say that he REALLY needed to do a better job of securing his computer. N-OX... you're lucky. What you did is technically against the law. It's the electronic equivalent of entering a house through an unlocked front door and leaving a note on the kitchen counter saying "You should lock your doors' ! If you're caught, you ARE guilty of "Entering". Not "Breaking". And electronically you're guilty of illegal entry to a computer system. The same penalty applies if you had hacked the NSA and left a note saying "LULZSEC RUL3Z ! N00b5 !" Don't Do it again. We don't want to have to visit you in jail. Re: Why do you people have file-sharing enabled on your Macbooks... - DP - 07-13-2011 OK, I'll take the hit for being the dumb one... I don't use wi-fi much but where do I find the settings to check? Is it in the computer prefs or the browser. I just checked FF prefs and nowhere do I see anything that says anything like "don't allow file sharing". Re: Why do you people have file-sharing enabled on your Macbooks... - DP - 07-13-2011 Found it. When I read the thread title. Sys Prefs>Internet & Wireless>Sharing. No boxes checked. Whew!
