Re: Stop Me. I'm (almost) buying a VW - N-OS X-tasy! - 05-14-2014 As I've said of VWs before: Fun to drive, not fun to own. I might lease a VW, but I would never buy one. Re: Stop Me. I'm (almost) buying a VW - Speedy - 05-14-2014 I'd say go for it if it had a Diesel or was a hybrid. Re: Stop Me. I'm (almost) buying a VW - chopper - 05-15-2014 Aren't the '15s made by robots in Mexico? Some guy at the dealership was saying these were the last ones made by the 'krauts. I'm (almost) buying a VW - Mr645 - 05-15-2014 The GTI is a great, fun car to drive. But don't get caught owning it after the warranty ends. Focus ST is really a great car to drive, Ford has really come a long way, don;t be afraid to drive it. The 2015 WRX? Truly a step above the competition in the cheap, fun, performance car market. Not going to be as nice inside as the GTI but it makes sense to drive it. The reviews are solid and all agree that Subaru kicked one out of the park. Re: Stop Me. I can put you in touch with my German buddies who know all the good web sites, forums, mechanics, since their VWs and Audis are always in the shop. Re: Stop Me. I'm (almost) buying a VW - testcase - 05-15-2014 A mechanic I trust warned me to STAY AWAY from VWs. Quality ain't what it once was (and this mechanic used to love German cars). Re: Stop Me. I'm (almost) buying a VW - Ombligo - 05-15-2014 All cars get mixed reviews (I had a bad experience with Mazda, will never recommend one but they are highly rated, a friend is the same with Honda's), but VW has an inordinate amount of bad reviews on reliability. Most everyone says they are fun cars to drive BUT…. That is enough of a warning to me to avoid. Re: Stop Me. I'm (almost) buying a VW - Mini 9 - 05-15-2014 BUY BUY BUY !!! I might do this , this week: http://www.mecum.com/auctions/auction_detail.cfm?AUCTION_ID=SC0514 Re: Stop Me. I'm (almost) buying a VW - Zoidberg - 05-15-2014 I've had two New Beetles (a 2000 and a 2003); loved them both. I will say, and keep in mind this was 10 and 13 years ago, respectively both models had some sort of electrical/wiring issue. They were both fleet leases, so repairs were covered and swap-outs were relatively easy. But that was via a company fleet lease; ownership is different. But I really miss driving that car. Agreed with Ombligo above, every car has mixed reviews. As the saying goes, all are equal but some are more equal than others. I have an old friend who's had one or another Jetta over the years and swears by them. Here's a pic of my second one, after a long drive along the Gulf Coast. Made a few special modifications, myself. |
