9 is fine, no reason for me to have waited.

Fixes things that don't affect me in the least,

Updated, quick and painless.

I had a friend encounter the "nearly a brick" issue with the update, but he had skipped iOS 8 altogether on his 5S, as I recall. Went directly from 7.something to 9.0.

I've installed 9.0 on seven different iPhones (5S and 5c models) and iPads (iPad 2 up to latest Air, incl a couple of minis) and didn't encounter a single problem with any of them.
9.0 bricked my 5s with the 'slide to upgrade' stall. It was the 7 to 9 upgrade jump that seems to be the riskiest (I had no idea at the time). Had to do a combination of hard resets, restore(s) and applying the update to 9.01 to get it up and running again.
Took a good long time, but not particularly high on the panic scale.

Edit: Running into glitches. Missing titles for phone numbers. Distinctive ringtones set for numbers set back to default. Disappointed, pretty far below my 'It just works' expectations.

My original iPad mini is slow with 9. Hopefully, the promised speed improvements will come with 9.0.1
