I'll say this – Necco Wafers never caused me to gag and spit them out. If I had to choose the true 'prank' among the brand's candies, it would probably be Mary Janes. They disguise themselves as a chewy treat - maybe a little like a Bit O'Honey. Unfortunately, when you put them in your mouth, there isn't much taste at first, so you have to start working them... And THEN the awful taste hits, but only after they are stuck in your teeth. Re: Sweet nothingness -- candymaker to shut down - Ombligo - 04-12-2018 Mary Jane is a favorite of mine, though I have not had it in a long time - either the candy or the organic version. Re: Sweet nothingness -- candymaker to shut down - M A V I C - 04-12-2018 In this day, I would assume a candy named Mary Jane was infused with something that's now legal in many places. Re: Sweet nothingness -- candymaker to shut down - pdq - 04-12-2018 What’s far more concerning to me is that they make/made these things: ![]() ...and yes, now other folks (like Brachs) make them too, but what if someone were to buy up the Necco patent and become a candy-heart patent troll? I worry about these things, you know. Re: Sweet nothingness -- candymaker to shut down - A-Polly - 04-12-2018 Necco wafers brought this to mind (last bit of the clip): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrLvtoKZfxY Re: Sweet nothingness -- candymaker to shut down - samintx - 04-12-2018 Ombligo wrote: Oh no. Love Necco wafers. We will have to pay big bucks from Vermont Country Store for facsimiles in the future. They seem to replicate goodies from the past for a price. Sometimes it is worth it to me to satisfy my obsession. https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=necco+wafer&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=178426913225&hvpos=1t1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3847538784366839945&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=t&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9027086&hvtargid=kwd-132790004&ref=pd_sl_39sl8smkkw_e Amz has them and if you Google Necco wow the prices by many companies Re: Sweet nothingness -- candymaker to shut down - ztirffritz - 04-12-2018 Oh no! That means my favorite candy bar is at risk...again! http://www.necco.com/candy/clark-bar.aspx https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clark_Bar Re: Sweet nothingness -- candymaker to shut down - NewtonMP2100 - 04-12-2018 ....so shut down.....like the party last Friday......??? Re: Sweet nothingness -- candymaker to shut down - mrbigstuff - 04-12-2018 Just a fun factoid, Cambridge and surrounding cities were a candy megalopolis back in the day, many recent immigrants got their first jobs in those businesses. Re: Sweet nothingness -- candymaker to shut down - Filliam H. Muffman - 04-12-2018 I like the Clark Bar a little better than Butterfinger. I liked the small rolls of candy like Necco (had a concave surface), I thought they were a little tastier. The local news described Necco as strawberry drywall flavor. :emoticon-tv-015: |
