From the article:
"I’m convinced these are a decades-long prank put on by someone, a prank that I’m too stupid to figure out, but a brilliant prank all the same. No one in the world likes Necco Wafers. No one. Zero people. I have never, ever met anyone who likes them, and if someone tells you they do, they’re a liar. And yet, still, these “candies” exist. Well played, prankster who got us with this trick. Good job."

While I respect diversity of tastes, I'm glad to know I'm not alone in my opinion of Necco wafers.

I'll say this –
Necco Wafers never caused me to gag and spit them out. If I had to choose the true 'prank' among the brand's candies, it would probably be Mary Janes. They disguise themselves as a chewy treat - maybe a little like a Bit O'Honey.

Unfortunately, when you put them in your mouth, there isn't much taste at first, so you have to start working them... And THEN the awful taste hits, but only after they are stuck in your teeth.

Mary Jane is a favorite of mine, though I have not had it in a long time - either the candy or the organic version.

In this day, I would assume a candy named Mary Jane was infused with something that's now legal in many places.

What’s far more concerning to me is that they make/made these things:

...and yes, now other folks (like Brachs) make them too, but what if someone were to buy up the Necco patent and become a candy-heart patent troll?

I worry about these things, you know.

Necco wafers brought this to mind (last bit of the clip):

The New England Confectionary Company, which makes Necco Wafers and other sweets, said last month it will permanently close its factory unless it finds a buyer by May 6.

The candy company has been making iconic candies like Necco Wafers and Mary Janes since 1847.

Oh no. Love Necco wafers. We will have to pay big bucks from Vermont Country Store for facsimiles in the future. They seem to replicate goodies from the past for a price. Sometimes it is worth it to me to satisfy my obsession.

Amz has them and if you Google Necco wow the prices by many companies

Just a fun factoid, Cambridge and surrounding cities were a candy megalopolis back in the day, many recent immigrants got their first jobs in those businesses.

I like the Clark Bar a little better than Butterfinger.

I liked the small rolls of candy like Necco (had a concave surface), I thought they were a little tastier.

The local news described Necco as strawberry drywall flavor. :emoticon-tv-015:
