Mark Cuban started a lower-cost pharmacy recently.
This is not a recommendation as I have no personal experience using it, but it might be worth checking out.

.....yeah, will get telephone calls at work (the number listed on the medication) reminding one to refill....wouldn't it be easier to email or text reminder.....??

We have BC/BS through my wife's Retired Educators program (MI) and are not required to use CVS. We can use Optum Rx or Costco or Walgreens, and I am sure there are others. We have used CVS in the past and opted out of texts and emails successfully. It is easily done in one's online CVS account. Each state may have different rules by BC/BS.

Not talking about prescriptions.
They have "follow-up" and "wellness" programs that they use CVS for. When I get a call from "Blue Cross" following up on a visit to my doctor, it's actually someone from CVS trying to trick me into giving them additional marketing info under the guise of healthcare.
If you ever have a hospital visit and a couple of days later a "nurse" calls from "Blue Cross" to check up on you, odds are that it's actually a marketing drone from CVS masquerading as such.
