We have a large container at the top of the hill that is provided by Waste Management that I fill to the top every Friday. I have three household type Rubbermaid containers used to accumulate the trash and then take it up the hill in my golf cart. Sometimes I put cut up limbs, old lumber and other stuff in them for pick up.

I have been replacing our three level deck that goes from the house to the pool a little at a time for the past year. I cut the old 1 by 6 treated lumber into pieces 2 to 3 feet long, place them in my garbage cans, and place them next to the WM container. I am very careful not to overload them and they have taken them without a problem. The alternative is many trips to the WM dump with my utility trailer and paying them 25 a load.

Here are links to pictures of the deck that is being rebuilt.

[quote Lee3]I cut it up in the past. Now the company supplies the containers so you can have trash, green waste and recyclable. Big stuff I take to work and throw in dumpster.
We have the big mini-dumpsters that the truck lifts and dumps and a separate recycle bin

A couple weeks ago it was raining so I set my recycle inside the trash can to keep all the paper dry.

They threw away my recycle bin : -/

I had the same problem w/ a piano.

[quote mjgkramer]I finally took drastic measures last week and cut it in half vertically with a circular saw. They finally took it.

Have any of you ever been successful in getting rid of a trash can without taking drastic measures? If so how did you do it?
Easy. Just leave it in a neighbor's yard and run like hell Big Grin (Just joking for those of you who may now find yourself doing involuntary kegels. Hey it's Friday.)

Seriously, I'd do what you did, slice and dice and leave it in the recycling bin.

Put a sign on it that says "For Sale: $50"
Someone will just take it.

Something tht size you would have to handle like a car and leave the keys in it.

Hey Dad...good thread you've got going here!

When I was in college, we lived in a trailer park, and my friend labeled her trashcan with "trailer park trash" (my apologies if this offends anyone...we as trailer park dwellers thought it was quite amusing...it was a nice trailer park with deed restrictions).

We got in trouble for it, and they made her get rid of it.

Then the tornado came through. No, really!

Yep; God doesn't care much for trailer parks.

I don't know: He made an awful lot of residents for them.

True, but He also made tornadoes as a trailer-park specific way to show His Wrath. I figure trailer parks are like little Soddom and Gomorrahs in God's view.

And to toss a trash can you cut it up and recycle it. Be sure to save the "Rubbermaid" logo, they'll usually send you a replacement, or at least a coupon for one. I still fondly remember getting a whole trash can in a big box from UPS. It was pretty weird.
