mrbigstuff, are you truly a oenophile or just having fun? If you are I'd like to know if you participate in a club etc.

beerman, I'm only an oenophile in my little world but I have read about wine pretty extensively and know some people in the business. I've done the usual tastings, wine expos, and restaurant wine dinners. I'm no sommelier, but I did think seriously about attending a certification course at one time about a decade ago. I used to host wine dinners at my home and each couple or individual would bring along a bottle (or a half-bottle) to taste with a set menu. That in and of itself does not make me an expert; I've just had a lot of wine
But, and probably because of the above, my stomach can no longer take a lot of the tannins in the reds, so I'm forced to drink mostly white. I can have the occasional red now and then but only about half a glass. Ah, the comeuppance.

fizzy: yes. champagne: no.
Most likely a Cremant de Lorraine or Jura. Don't know what we have in the fridge at the mo.

I'll probably put on the Kevlar and NVGs and do Celebrator Suppression.
Last year wasn't too bad, but we still get gunfire amongst the fireworks.

I won't be having any bubbly, but if I were, I would prefer a good Asti Spumate over champagne. The sweeter the better for me.

But, if you do like bubbly, I recommend trying some from New Mexico. Yup, support the good ol' USA economy - plus, it's quite good. Or, Cava from Spain is also quite good.
What are y'all drinking (non-alcohol included) ?
As a New Mexican, I can DEFINITELY recommend Gruet "champagne." Even better than that, I HIGHLY recommend St Clair's DH Lescombes Imperial Kir, made with champagne and raspberry liqueur. They also have Royal Kir - champagne and currant liqueur. Both are good but the Imperial Kir is better. It's YUMMY. I cannot say enough about it. It's what we'll be celebrating with tomorrow night!
Lastly, Wines of the San Juans has some fantastic wines. "Girls Are Meaner," Malvasia and Pale Morning Dun are really good.
