But really, OP was commenting on Team USA's upset win over Canada in yesterday's hockey match.
I was pretty riveted to the 1980 hockey matches. Knew all the players' names and all that stuff. Looking at the old footage brought back a lot of those memories.
Recently had a conversation with some friends about the most thrilling sporting moments we ever witnessed. Mine included the Miracle on Ice, The Catch (49ers vs Cowboys NFC Championship), Stanford's comeback against Rhode Island for a trip to the Final Four in college basketball (1998), and Manchester United's two goals in stoppage time to beat Bayern Munich for the European Cup in 1999.
Unfortunately, there was no NHL franchise within hundreds of miles of our city, so my own interest in the sport quickly dissipated. I don't recall watching any hockey at subsequent winter games.
And yes, I too was in fourth grade in 1980.
