Works now- box is on the way. I wonder if they will be dumping off the least popular colored nanos on us.

I only have a 2nd gen but the new Nanos are hard to use compared to the early models. even the 5th gen was too slippery, IMO.

...still the best sound is from my original 5gb

CNet says the replacement will be another 1st gen iPod nano http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57323628-37/apple-early-ipod-nanos-can-overheat-send-in-for-free-replacement/

The new program offers a free replacement unit to customers whose device carries a serial number that indicates the gadget contains one of the suspect batteries. Apple is promising that a replacement unit, which is another first-generation iPod Nano, will be delivered about six weeks after customers send in an affected device.

Box is on the way!

Cool! I got the white 2 GB nano for "free" from an old credit card rewards program.

Still like the wheel that actually spins personally.

Woah woah woah... hold up. I got my brand new iPhone 4S in white to match my 1gen nano in white. The current version nano does not come in white. I demand reparations. Make this right Apple!

Cool! I bought one years ago, right before Apple stopped selling returned units in the store. The manager told me they were clearancing them out, and I got a 4GB model for $19. I never used it. I also got a 30GB 5th Gen model and a shuffle that day. I use the shuffle in the gym, and the 30GB model at work. I can't wait to see what I get in return.

Well, I have a white one sitting here next to me that never gets used, so I figured I'd plug in my info. It appears I'm eligible, as I'm at the "Submit" page after putting in my serial number and confirming my Apple ID and address. I don't know why I'm hesitating. It's not as if I'll miss having one for 6 weeks.

-edit-

Jeez, I just turned it on. It's been sitting for months and the battery was still full. Although while I was fiddling it for a minute, the level went down a notch.

Those of you turning them in, are you wiping the contents first?

My 1st Gen Nano has been my favorite of all iPods. Recently it stopped holding a charge and would net be recognized when I plug it in to iTunes.

Hopefully it qualifies and I get a shiny new something. My 9 yo had been asking for an iPod for Christmas, so this has the potential to make this cheap a$$ shopper very happy.

How long does it take to find out if it is or isn't covered?

JPK

Probably less time than it takes you to go to the site and type in its serial number.
