Super easy to check serial number. Sign into Apple and then My Support Profile and Bob's your Uncle, unless he isn't, which he wasn't for me.

I have the impression that Apple is sitting on a lot of the current Nanos. I'd be very surprised if the replacement was anything other than an 8-GB 6th gen.
