PSB Alpha 1, Pioneer SP-BS22-LR, there are other decent budget speakers.
Thanks, I dig the Pioneer one. Adding that to my amazon wish list for later. I'd need a receiver too, and 2 of those. We're already talking $500+. I do have a polk audio subwoofer PSW10 and it has speaker out connections. No idea if it's any good or not but maybe it could make it so I don't need a receiver yet.
EDIT: The problem is my tv only has optical out and the sub only has RCA in.

I have the progenitor of those, the 10A. bought them about 10yrs ago for very cheap, in original boxes. they are now in my attic, back in their original boxes.
Cerwin-Vega: I found a great pair of Cizek speakers (mostly a regarded local brand) that have CV drivers. they are great, especially for the $20 I paid.

The Air Force Exchange on Hickam AFB did in the late eighties. I was in the Navy, but we could shop there, too.
A lot of the guys bought stuff in Japan on WestPACs.
