Re: [guy stuff] Shaving - I'm doin' it wrong - Fritz - 08-30-2013 wow! I'd not heard of Edwin Jagger. What a biz shaving has become. There's bazillions of shave sites. Whoda thunk? Re: [guy stuff] Shaving - I'm doin' it wrong - PeterB - 08-30-2013 I just discovered that there was/is a significant difference between the different types of Gillette Fusion blades that I'd been using. The ones I don't like are these: http://www.amazon.com/Gillette-Fusion-Proglide-Manual-Refills/dp/B003983HZK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1377875857 and the ones that are (to me) just great, are these: http://www.amazon.com/Gilette-Fusion-Power-Refill-Cartridges/dp/B00AXNN3XK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1377875857 (Which is sort of ironic, because the first ones are much higher rated than the second...) I don't know if it's that I got a bad batch or what, but the second ones just literally glide along my skin... I shave in the shower, which as others have pointed out, is better because of the steam and loosening the skin. I tried the double-edged razor that others have mentioned, and that was a disaster for me. YMMV, of course. Re: [guy stuff] Shaving - I'm doin' it wrong - Robert M - 08-30-2013 Bill, True. But, the only DE razor I'd consider purchasing used is an antique or if I knew its history, i.e. buying one from a friend. Otherwise, I'd prefer a new model. Robert Re: [guy stuff] Shaving - I'm doin' it wrong - testcase - 08-30-2013 Geez, I get MONTHS of great shaves from one Gillette Fusion Pro Glide Power using a few drops of Shave Secret and Pro Glide Fusion Gel. I rinse the blade between strokes in the warm water in the sink. The Shave Secret is a blend of essential oils that allow me to finish with against the grain strokes (after I've wet the area again with water). I generally don't need to rinse the blade under running water but do dry the blade off with a towel before putting it back in its holder. I buy the Secret Shave at Walmart but, I'd expect it to be available in many other places. http://www.shavesecret.com/ https://www.google.com/search?q=Secret+Shave&oq=Secret+Shave&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l3.3062j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Re: [guy stuff] Shaving - I'm doin' it wrong - Fritz - 08-30-2013 I've never heard of Shave Secret. Seems pretty popular at the house of bezos. thanks for that as well. Re: [guy stuff] Shaving - I'm doin' it wrong - cbelt3 - 08-30-2013 I suspect the real issue is that you've been using an electric for a long time, and just switched back to a blade. Therefore your skin is not used to the blade experience. So almost regardless of your method, you will get irritation until your skin is used to the blade. I went through that some years ago. Since then I always shave with a blade at least once a week. Re: [guy stuff] Shaving - I'm doin' it wrong - Robert M - 08-30-2013 cbelt, I think electric shaver manufacturers recommend not switching back and forth between electric shaving and wet shaving with a blade. At least that's what I remember when I gave electric a try and couldn't stand it. I wanted to use both methods but everything I read said stick to one or the other. I gave electric a try but quickly returned to a razor. Electric couldn't compare at all. Robert Re: [guy stuff] Shaving - I'm doin' it wrong - deckeda - 08-30-2013 FWIW the irritation came after I'd used it for 3 days, not the first day which was fine. At any rate it seems there are lots of potential solutions here and I'll try some of them, thanks all.
