Re: Should I buy a waffle iron? - PizzaGod - 01-31-2016 Absolutely! This is what we have- Our Waffle Iron Re: Should I buy a waffle iron? - RAMd®d - 01-31-2016 LOVE waffles, don't care if they're Belgian or not. We had a Sunbeam waffle maker, huge. It made four waffles, 5x5 or 6x6 each. I've never cared for Eggos. I used them in a pinch, but it just wasn't worth it. Re: Should I buy a waffle iron? - sekker - 01-31-2016 The batter recipe and add-ones like honey butter are as important as the brand of iron for waffles IMHO. Re: Should I buy a waffle iron? - OWC Jamie - 01-31-2016 You can make your own Eggo frozen waffles with your very own waffle iron. Just make extra and freeze them. We have just a little Sunbeam 3852. Small, compact, takes little storage space. Spray on a little Pam or brush on oil or whatever. Cook a waffle. Nothing else. The only 'flip-over' waffle maker I've had flipped over because it was cast iron or aluminum and used the heat from a gas range burner like a krumcake/pizzelle iron. Re: Should I buy a waffle iron? - michaelb - 01-31-2016 I love making waffles and eating waffles and made some today. I have a waffle iron that flips, have used that type for years, and do think that works much better. The best waffle irons get really hot and hold that heat evenly. Homemade batter using buttermilk is better, but bisquick works just fine. Anyway, you are asking about using a waffle iron for other recipes, not cooking waffles. I would never do that. Waffle irons are hard to clean and I don't really wash it. I would not want cheese and other gooey stuff getting in there. A panini maker would make more sense there (I make panini's with cast iron pans). Re: Should I buy a waffle iron? - Filliam H. Muffman - 01-31-2016 Even Darth Donkey likes them. ![]() Re: Should I buy a waffle iron? - CJsNvrUrly - 01-31-2016 Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm going to think about this a bit more. What I really want to know is if you've ever cooked anything other than waffles in your waffle iron and how did it turn out? Re: Should I buy a waffle iron? - RecipeForDisaster - 01-31-2016 Latkes were easy to make and good, but needed to be thrown in the toaster. Cleanup was easy. Ditto for falafel... We actually don't make either of those in a pan anymore! You can do a lot without flipping and multiple batches. We have a large waffle maker so a batch of either can be the entire bowl of batter. Re: Should I buy a waffle iron? - $tevie - 01-31-2016 IF I cooked, and IF I owned a waffle iron, I'd try making cornbread waffles. I think they sound yummy. Re: Should I buy a waffle iron? - Kate - 01-31-2016 Also really good for frozen hash browns! Kate |
